Exodus 17:9-15 (NIV)
9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
As Moses held the rod up they prevailed, when his hands were down they were losing.
Lifting His hands to God was a sign of dependency on God. In effect, they said God, “we cannot win this battle in our own might.”
The Battle was determined by whether Moses had his hands up to God or down.
When we allow Heaven to join our battle by lifting our hands up in prayer to God we no longer fight alone. Heavens army is backing us.
It’s no longer in our strength.
When Moses hands got heavy, meaning he was weary like we all get, sometimes, when a battle is overwhelming; they supported his hands so he could continue lifting up his hands to God.
When the battle starts to wear us down, we need reinforcement–some believers who will stand with us in the battle, believers who believe in our God enough to stand with you.
We may be on the battle on earth, but we win the battle when our eyes are lifted up to God in prayer.
Let’s turn our eyes on our maker today.
